To coincide with our exhibition Spaghetti Blockchain, Outernet Arts is pleased to present From Here To Pluto, a digital installation by artist Grace Weir that refers to the constantly changing distances from Earth to the dwarf planet Pluto in our solar system. Generated by a computer program on a continual basis, the distance is measured specifically from Outernet to the planet on an individual counter that changes continually in real time.

Like all the planets Pluto orbits at different speeds depending on its position in relation to the Sun. This creates a constantly changing sequence of measurements in terms of its distance to Outernet on Earth. From the momentary experience of a visitor in the exhibition to a wider read of one’s continually changing place in the cosmos, a person at Outernet can glance up and comprehend the counter twinkling in a continual loop of speed and slowness, of distance and nearness as Pluto comes in close and then moves away again.
